BAY AREA WALK AGAINST GENOCIDE (LAKE MERRITT)
APRIL 10, 2011
Hey there Oakland! Hope you guys had a great weekend. I just left the 1st Annual Bay Area Walk Against Genocide at Lake Merritt. Heard stories of genocide survivors, met with tons of other organizations that address global issues such as human rights, fair trade and genocide. I talked to tons of Bay Area and Oakland residents about making Oakland a Fair Trade Town and was able to get a lot of supporters! Spread the word about Fair Trade Oakland. Oakland is so ready for this! It’s awesome being in the community and meeting so many Oakland residents that are supporters of Fair Trade. The walk was a great turn out and thanks for everyone that came out to walk against genocide.
FAIR TRADE OAKLAND 2011
Hey, Oakland! As we get Fair Trade Oakland up and running again for 2011, we’re looking for a lot of input and leadership from the community. After all, our campaign will be strongest if people from all walks of life are out promoting Fair Trade. Come check us out this weekend at Wholefoods Oakland to sign petitions as we seek interested locals wanting to join the committee. Soon we will hold a meeting for like-minded people and swap ideas, hear about Fair Trade and the Fair Trade Towns movement from speakers, network with retailers and other organizations, and learn about ways to get involved in this exciting campaign. Even before the meeting, there’s plenty that you can do to help us out!
Spread the word about the meeting to members of your neighborhood, workplace, religious congregation, or organization. Let them know that this is a great chance for them to take part in a movement that wants to hear their voices. If you want to learn about how to get your organization involved in Fair Trade Oakland, don’t hesitate to contact us at kselma@fairtradeusa.org.
If you want to take on a leadership role within Fair Trade Oakland or even just toss out a few ideas for the meeting or the movement, contact us! We’ll happily take all the help we can get.
Finally, spread the word about the upcoming meeting. You can find us on Facebook and Twitter, so start liking, linking, and tweeting away!
